What We Do

Over the years we have grown food in over 100 different farms and gardens, including backyard plots, urban rooftops and rural acres.

Having worked in so many different spaces, we’ve learned there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach. There are many effective ways to prune a tomato or organize your crops. What we do is help you learn which strategies will best fit your unique gardening space and goals.

We believe in coaching from experience - what we offer is rooted in the dirt under our nails. We will share what we have personally observed, field tested, and adapted from growing food across an expansive patchwork of farms and gardens in western Washington.

Meet the Farmers

Shiloh Bolton - Patchwork Garden Guides

Shiloh Bolton

I have been growing food since 2011, specializing in urban farming and gardening for the past 10 years. In college, I fell in love with growing things when I started working on organic vegetable farms during the summer. Later on, I completed a year long farming internship, and coordinated the university farm along with educational programming for students and community members. Since then, I have been growing food both personally and professionally all around the Seattle area. Learning to grow food and sharing what I know to help empower other growers has become a life-long passion and career. It is a humbling practice that challenges me to attune to ever-evolving living things. In an increasingly online world, I strive to ground my practice in present, real-world connection - to the plants and to each other.

When I spend time in soil I’m challenged to welcome the dirt into the wrinkles of my knuckles, to settle into the discomfort of my hunching form over the ground, and to support the balance of an ecosystem, teeming with life and poised for an abundant harvest. I've been growing food professionally for 5 years, but many of my touchstone memories revolve around cultivating food and other plants. I learned to grow flowers from my Dad as a kid, planted edible gardens with elementary schoolers during college, and spent a couple of years working with PNW native plants thereafter. In the last few seasons as a professional edible gardener, I've spent a lot of time watching, interpreting, and translating what I’ve learned to people eager to grow. I’m excited to share with you!
